Understanding neurodiversity, including the various conditions, their presentation, and the spectrum, is crucial. It is essential to support neurodivergent individuals in all aspects of life, as without necessary adjustments, neurodivergent people are at a disadvantage, which in turn holds back society. Moreover, many remarkable individuals, such as entrepreneurs, innovators, inventors, and creatives, are neurodivergent.

Supporting and understanding each other is vital for everyone to thrive and contribute to society at their best.

Overview

This neurodiversity training session by Neuro Tide will give you a fantastic first-time or refresher understanding of neurodiversity. Communication is explored to support you in enabling a neuro-inclusive environment. We also delve into the most common challenges and strengths of each condition. This is woven with plenty of practical guidance including adjustments. This session is tailored to the audience, including the personal stories and case studies our experts share with you.

Course content

Understanding neurodiversity, by Neuro Tide

  • An exploration of how a person’s spectrum of disability is affected by an organisation’s response to that condition presentation. Here we also discuss how this impacts the culture of the organisation, leading to greater or lesser neuro-inclusion.

  • Whilst society often discusses ‘disability’, and ‘ability’, this section delves into how these are defined as well as how to ensure a neurodivergent person’s abilities are able to shine.

  • In this section, we will explore the prevalent myths and misunderstandings surrounding neurodivergent conditions. By addressing these misconceptions, our aim is to provide you with a comprehensive and accurate understanding of neurodivergent conditions.

  • We embrace and celebrate the positive aspects, and also we also acknowledge and understand the challenges as well as the spectrum of hypersensitivity to sensory input.

  • Many people with ADHD have this co-occurring condition and so we explore when it becomes a challenge.

  • Neurodivergent people have unique preferences and it's crucial to tailor verbal and written communication to enable quick and easy processing, including summaries and reminders. We also delve into learning styles and address challenges related to email responses, report writing, and more.

  • When referring to, or communicating with neurodivergent people it is really important to be aware of the language to use, and we share this vital information with you.

  • Many neurodivergent people experience multiple neurodivergent conditions, which, in some situations can significantly heighten a risk of mental health challenges. but not always. Here we address and understand these interconnected factors.

Personal stories and case studies

Throughout the session, the facilitator shares their personal stories as someone living with ADHD and autism. These real-life experiences are woven together with case studies and throughout the session to provide a comprehensive understanding.

Practical guidance and reasonable adjustments

It's essential to deepen your understanding of neurodivergence and also explore reasonable adjustments and new approaches to tasks, all of which will be shared during the session. Always tailored for the audience and your goals and themes.
